New editorial appointments for Schwartz Media continue The Saturday Paper’s dedication to narrative journalism.
Schwartz Media is pleased to announce two new appointments to our editorial team: Emily Barrett to the role of managing editor on The Saturday Paper and Martin McKenzie-Murray to the role of associate editor.
Emily Barrett will work closely with Schwartz Media’s editor-in-chief, Erik Jensen, editing and commissioning for The Saturday Paper. Following decades as a journalist in London and covering financial markets in New York, Barrett brings a wealth of editorial experience to The Saturday Paper.
As associate editor McKenzie-Murray will continue his work writing for The Saturday Paper and The Monthly, as well as contributing to the senior editorial team and working on the development of a new podcast to be announced soon.
“These new positions significantly expand The Saturday Paper’s senior editorial team and will allow us to add to our reporting and the depth of our coverage,” Jensen said. “Marty and Emily are both excellent journalists and it’s exciting to be working with them on the paper’s next phase.”
Of her appointment Barrett says, “I’m thrilled to join The Saturday Paper at this point of its expansion. It’s an honour to work among the talented writers and editors at Schwartz Media telling Australia’s most essential stories.”
McKenzie-Murray who was The Saturday Paper’s chief correspondent for more than five years, has recently been the paper’s sports editor, as well as writing a fortnightly column for The Monthly online, which won the Keith Dunstan Quill for Commentary this year.
“I'm happy that I can continue writing, but now also work with and support our wonderful stable of writers,” McKenzie-Murray said. “I also hope that I can cultivate some new voices, too.”
Schwartz Media’s team is continuing to grow. Additional editorial appointments will be announced in the coming weeks.
